Aretha Franklin has come out and stated – repeatedly – that she’d like Halle Berry to play her in a planned biopic. Now the ball is in the Oscar winner’s court.
“Halle Berry is my pick,” the legendary singer said during an interview on “The Wendy Williams Show,” according to MTV. That echoes a sentiment Franklin stated in a press release sent out late last year.
However, Berry has yet to officially respond. That didn’t necessarily stop Franklin from edging toward the idea that a production could be up and running soon, if all of the pieces fell into place.
“For the last four years, we’ve been talking about [the film], and I have had a number of offers. Unfortunately, they were not good offers,” she said. “Now, we have something on the table. They have all of the financing on one project and the second project, and he’s in the process of writing things for me to approve on the tele-film.”
We know certain actors have had great success playing legendary singers, whether it be Joaquin Phoeix playing Johnny Cash or Jaime Foxx playing Ray Charles. Would Berry be the right pick to play Aretha Franklin in a biopic? Would she need to learn how to sing like Franklin, or could she bluff her way through? Let us know in the comments section, and we’ll continue to track this story.
